The Fathead Sunburst Anthias, also recognized as the Fathead Anthias, boasts a vibrant appearance primarily characterized by shades of pink, accentuated by striking yellow-to-orange edges on its scales and distinct facial markings. Its pectoral and anal fins exhibit a delicate blue fringe.

For an optimal habitat, the Fathead Sunburst Anthias prefers the lower regions of the tank, suggesting a greater depth is preferable while still ensuring ample surface area for effective water oxygenation. A setting with subdued to moderate lighting and numerous hiding spots is well-suited for this species. It is most harmoniously kept alongside peaceful tankmates like gobies. When introducing multiple individuals, it is advisable to bring in all the anthias simultaneously.

A unique feature shared among anthias species is their hermaphroditic nature. In cases where the dominant male perishes, the largest female within the group often undergoes a transformation to fill the vacant male role.

After acclimating to a new aquarium, anthias thrive on a diverse diet comprising frozen mysis shrimp, enriched frozen brine shrimp, and gradually incorporating high-quality flake foods in small portions throughout the day. A connected refugium that cultivates copepods and amphipods offers a consistent supply of nutritious live food, ensuring the well-being of this active planktivore.
