The Pacific Redstripe Hogfish, also known as the Masudai hogfish, Candystripe, or Black Spot hogfish, boasts a stunning red hue adorned with elegant white horizontal stripes. Its common name stems from its vibrant coloration and elongated body shape. Recently, taxonomists have updated the genus Bodianus, assigning this fish its proper species name. With a peaceful temperament, these captivating fish prove to be a wonderful addition to both saltwater fish-only and reef aquarium setups.

For optimal care, a spacious 50-gallon or larger aquarium with ample hiding spots should be provided. The Pacific Redstripe Hogfish adapts quickly to most aquarium environments due to its peaceful nature. If multiple Pacific Redstripe Hogfish are to be introduced, it is crucial to add them simultaneously, as they may display slight territorial behavior towards one another. As mature individuals, they may develop a liking for smaller ornamental shrimp introduced after the hogfish has already established itself in the reef aquarium.

To satisfy their dietary needs, it is best to offer a variety of meaty foods, such as vitamin-enriched brine shrimp or mysid shrimp, along with high-quality marine flake food. Providing this diverse diet ensures their nutritional requirements are met and promotes their well-being in the aquarium setting.
