The Mappa Puffer, also known as the Scribbled Toadfish and Scribbled Arothron Puffer, boasts a striking and vibrant appearance. Its body showcases a range of colors, from light tans to dark yellows, adorned with a network of intricate black "scribbles" forming a unique pattern. This puffer lacks pelvic fins, but adeptly uses its pectoral fins for movement within the aquarium.

When threatened or alarmed, the Mappa Puffer has the remarkable ability to inflate its body to nearly twice its normal size as a defense mechanism, deterring potential predators. Certain parts of its flesh are poisonous if ingested. Its teeth are fused, creating a beak-like structure for crushing prey.

For housing the Mappa Puffer, a spacious 300-gallon or larger fish-only aquarium equipped with a good protein skimmer is recommended. Generally, it coexists peacefully with other fish, even other Puffers. However, caution should be exercised as it may consume invertebrates found in a reef tank, as well as corals and aquarium equipment. When handling, it's best to avoid using a net and instead use a container for safe transfer.

To meet its dietary needs, the Mappa Puffer requires a diverse diet of meaty foods such as squid, krill, clams, and hard-shelled shrimp, which helps to wear down its ever-growing teeth.
