The Bloodspot Squirrelfish, also called Sammara Squirrelfish, Soldierfish, or Spotfin Squirrelfish, is a shallow-water species and the most common squirrelfish in the Neophion genus. Its silvery body is accentuated by reddish stripes and golden-yellow coloring on its upper body, tail, pectoral and anal fins.

To keep this schooling fish healthy and happy, a 70-gallon or larger aquarium with ample live rock, hiding places, and swimming space is recommended. While it can coexist with other Bloodspot Squirrelfish in the same tank, sufficient hiding spots and space are essential. It feeds on small fish, crustaceans, worms, and serpent stars, but is nocturnal and will hide while the lights are on.

To encourage feeding, live saltwater feeder shrimp should be offered initially. A varied diet of freeze-dried or chopped marine meats and feeder shrimp should be provided.
