The Naso Tang, also known as the Orangespine Unicornfish, undergoes a captivating transformation as it matures. In the Hawaiian variant, the juvenile Naso Tang displays a dark gray body with a striking blue stripe along the dorsal fin and an orange stripe in the anal fin. As it reaches adulthood, its appearance takes on a reddish-brown tone, and the juvenile striping is complemented with additional colors. The tail elegantly forms a lyre shape with a yellow vertical bar towards the back, and two orange patches appear at the peduncle spines near the tail. The most significant change occurs in its face, as a thin, black mask emerges between the eyes and mouth, outlined with bright yellow, and the lips develop a beautiful reddish-orange color.

To accommodate the Naso Tang's active nature and changing appearance, a spacious 180-gallon aquarium or larger is necessary, providing plenty of swimming room and ample hiding spots. A tight-fitting lid is essential to prevent the fish from jumping and escaping. While the Naso Tang can be aggressive towards other tangs, it generally coexists peacefully with other fish in the tank.

To ensure the optimal health and well-being of the Naso Tang, it is crucial to offer a balanced diet. While they will consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the aquarium, a substantial portion of their diet should consist of marine-based seaweed and algae. This dietary focus strengthens their immune system, reduces aggression, and enhances their overall health. Providing dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip, and feeding at least three times per week, are excellent ways to cater to their dietary needs.
