Hector's Goby, Amblygobius hectori, is a colorful, hardy, attractive relative of its close cousin, the Rainfordi Goby. This is a useful fish in that it eats green hair algae and is also a sand sifter. Typically found hovering just above the substrate, it grows to a maximum length around 3 inches which makes it perfect for large and for small aquariums. Hector's Gobies do great individually, but given adequate space and a simultaneous introduction, a grouping makes a beautiful display with their deeply colored bodies and yellow striping running horizontally along the entire length of the body. This fish typically will not bother any fish, corals, or invertebrates. Care should be taken, however, to ensure that other larger species do not pick on the Hector's. In the reef tank, it will appreciate the hiding places afforded by Live Rock and corals.
