The Bluespotted Watchman Goby, also known as the Blackfinned Shrimp Goby, was initially identified by Bleeker in 1849. This fascinating fish exhibits two distinct color phases. The first phase features an orange head with blue spots, an orange body with red bands, and black spots on the dorsal fin. In the second phase, it displays an olive drab color with blue spots.

For its well-being, the Bluespotted Watchman Goby should be kept in a 30-gallon or larger aquarium with abundant loose coral rubble. Providing ample swimming space and a sand bottom for burrowing is essential. While it is generally non-aggressive towards other fish, it is territorial and may engage in fights with its own kind unless they form a mated pair. Additionally, it may show aggression towards smaller ornamental shrimp. It is essential to have a tight-fitting cover for the aquarium to prevent the goby from jumping out.

Feeding habits of the Bluespotted Watchman Goby primarily revolve around consuming prey suspended in the water column, but it will also pick food off the substrate. A well-balanced diet should include mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and table shrimp. To ensure its health, it is best to feed the goby at least three times per day.
