The Double Sea Star, also known as the Icon Sea Star, hails from the vibrant reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Its striking coloration ranges from orange to tan, adorned with distinct patterns that form small circles on its body and continue into its legs, creating a captivating outline reminiscent of another star shape. This unique feature is how it earned the common name, Double Sea Star.

In its natural habitat, the Double Sea Star can be found over sandy substrates, nestled among rocks, and hiding in crevices in the deeper regions of the reef. Constantly foraging for micro-organisms and detritus, it thrives in aquariums with ample live rock to support its feeding habits. While it typically prefers a solitary lifestyle, in larger aquariums, it can tolerate the presence of other Double Sea Stars.

This species is particularly sensitive to sudden changes in oxygen levels, salinity, and pH of the water, making the drip acclimation method essential to ensure a smooth transition. Handling should be done with care, and exposure to air must be avoided.

Breeding the Double Sea Star in an aquarium is a challenging endeavor, as there are no distinguishing characteristics to differentiate between individuals.

To provide a balanced diet, supplement its meals with small pieces of shrimp, mussel, or flaked food. Proper nutrition is crucial for its well-being in the aquarium environment.
