The Blue Tuxedo Urchin, also known as the Sphere Urchin or Globe Urchin, showcases a striking appearance with its five to ten broad-colored bands, typically in blue or black hues, complemented by red, brown, or dark spines. This unique combination gives it an elegant "formal" look, earning it the name "Tuxedo Urchin."

Throughout the day, the Blue Tuxedo Urchin seeks refuge among rocks, in crevices, or under plants in sandy substrates. As night falls, it emerges to graze on the algae present in or near its habitat. While the Tuxedo Pincushion Urchin is generally solitary in nature, it is possible to keep multiple individuals in the same aquarium, provided the tank is large enough to supply them with ample food (algae) and shelter.

To ensure its well-being, it is essential to maintain water conditions carefully, as the Blue Tuxedo Urchin is sensitive to high levels of copper-based medications and cannot tolerate elevated nitrate levels. If it starts shedding a significant number of spines, it often indicates poor water conditions.

In cases where algae levels are insufficient, it is advisable to supplement the Blue Tuxedo Urchin's diet with dried seaweed to meet its nutritional needs.
